Planning in the public interest
We are committed to achieving fairer and more equitable planning outcomes by connecting planning and allied professionals with the not-for-profit sector, the general community, and individuals who are seeking assistance with projects that have a public benefit.
Our members are committed to public good outcomes providing free expert advice, their skills and services in the public interest.
Our projects address real community needs, collaborate with under-resourced and groups facing systemic barriers, support sustainable communities and community capacity, engage in projects that impact communities from the outset, support improved public health and wellbeing outcomes and benefit the environments we all live in.
Who we support
We assist not-for-profit organisations, community groups or individuals across Australia with public interest projects and cases.
We also support international counterparts who wish to collaborate or are seeking assistance with projects.
We respond to local challenges and aspirations.
Our Talent Bank
Pro Bono Planners and allied professionals are individuals and firms which come from a broad range of backgrounds and experience to support communities achieve their development objectives in the public interest.
Our Talent Bank includes:
- Retired planners and allied professionals with deep knowledge and capacity to continue to practice
- Planners who wish to extend their experience in sectors and settings beyond what their “normal day job” provides
- Planners and allied professionals who are keen to enhance their professional development, working in teams or individually on projects that make a difference
- Planners and allied professionals who are keen to work closely with community on sustainable projects that are important to them
- Students keen to be mentored by an experienced planner on a pro-bono project
- Organisations, such as consulting firms that see the advantages of establishing their profile in the pro-bono space
- Urban and regional planners, architects, experts in heritage and conservation, environmental planners and ecologists, lawyers, engineers, social and economists, urban designers, building and land surveyors and other allied professions

Working alongside not-for-profit organisations, community groups or individuals seeking assistance through Pro Bono Planners Australia, we assist with:
- Projects generated by community organisations or not-for-profits aimed at public good or public interest outcomes
- Supporting disadvantaged and marginalized communities with little access to planning and allied professions
- Assisting individuals and groups on planning cases that seek an outcome for the public good and in the public interest
- Working with and supporting international counterparts across the Indo-Pacific and beyond by sharing knowledge and experience, as invited
