Pro Bono Planners Australia is searching for a Strategic Urban Planner for the SDG Localisation Project in Suva City Council, co-ordinated by UNESCAP and supported by the Australian Government's Australian Volunteers Program. This assignment supports the Joint SDG Program in Fiji, coordinated by UNESCAP, UN-Habitat, in collaboration with Fiji's Ministry of Local Government and various city councils. 

This assignment is 12 months including 2 months remote part time (from June) and 10 months in Fiji, from August 2025. 

This position aims to:

• Integrate SDGs into municipal development plans
• Strengthen local government capacity to implement SDGs
• Build local institutional capacities for SDG action

The focus is on helping Suva City Council integrate sustainability into its 10-Year Strategic Plan, based on the 2024 Voluntary Local Review (VLR). The plan will align with Fiji’s National Development Plan and include investment projects co-developed with local communities, ensuring inclusivity and social responsiveness. The volunteer will provide technical support and assist with knowledge exchange and capacity development for the Council.

The Australian Volunteers Program is a Australian Government-funded initiative that supports global volunteering. The program supports partner organisations across the Pacific, Asia and Africa to achieve locally led change and the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The program fosters strong, mutual relationships between Australia and communities globally to contribute to achieving equitable development outcomes.
